EUROPE’S HEALTHIEST PLAYGROUND...

‘It’s

simply

It’s been six years in the making, and Juicy Escape, Algarve is almost complete and ready to open its doors. Bookings for the brandnew retreat are set to go live on 20 September 2025 with the aim of welcoming guests starting in April/ May 2026. Juicy Escape

will also be the first Juice Master retreat to offer guests nourishing bowl food at night and Jason’s signature juices during the day. With state-of-the-art facilities including a gym with boxing ring, spin studio, mini Olympics, outdoor ‘Santa Monica Beach’ gym, tennis,

padel and pickleball courts, a breathtakingly beautiful elevated yoga studio, plus a world-class spa, the retreat takes full advantage of the site’s landscape. With a unique, purpose-built beach that leads onto Portugal’s largest natural swimming lake, a 100-seater Dolby®

surround sound cinema, retro games den and social hub, there will be plenty to keep guests entertained. “We are so excited to go live with bookings and welcome guests next year,” says Jason. Turn to page 4 to read our exclusive interview with Jason about Juicy Escape.

THE LAST DANCE?

At the start of Juicy Mountain’s 2025 season, Jason wrote to previous guests of the Turkish retreat to share that this year could be the last for ‘Magic Mountain’.

The Juice Master retreat, which many guests love for its simple and rustic experience, is privately owned, which limits the scope of development.

“Juicy Mountain was the second Juice Master retreat venue, and we fell in love with it. We’ve been running stays here for more than 20 years,” says Jason, pictured right at the retreat. “It holds a big piece of our hearts, as there’s a lot of history and lives have been changed at ‘Magic Mountain’.

“We rent the site each season and that means that we can’t always make the investments that we sometimes want to, which is the advantage of owning Juicy Oasis and developing Juicy Escape in Portugal.

“Juicy Mountain’s beauty is that it is rustic and people love that it feels a million miles away from ‘real life’. It offers a very intimate retreat with

just over 20 people staying each week to experience the stunning location as they relax and recharge their mind and body.

“This year we’ve made some new additions at Juicy Mountain, including a pool table, dartboard and table football, in keeping with the retreat’s relaxed vibe.

“With the build of Juicy Escape, people have asked if we’re going to continue to run retreats at Juicy Mountain, or if 2025 is the retreat’s ‘last dance’.

“The answer to that question is that we’ll keep dancing for as long as people put their shoes on and come! Guests tell us how amazing their stay at ‘Magic Mountain’ is, so we’re urging them to book now to enjoy what could potentially be the last chance to enjoy this amazing place.”

With limited places available, the Juicy Mountain season runs until 18 October. Visit juicemasterretreats. com or call 01234 480280 to book a stay.

All change! Discover what’s new and improved at Juice Master Delivered

Keep an eye out for Juice Master Delivered’s new bottles which have been given a refresh this season. With updated labels, the iconic blue bottles have a little more ‘room at the top’, which enables the nutritionally balanced contents to expand as they defrost without oxidising. The little blue bottles are made using recycled materials, reducing their carbon footprint, and are kerbside recyclable, boosting their ‘green’ credentials.

The Juice Master Delivered team has also updated some of the cleanse recipes to

match them more closely to the juices and smoothies enjoyed at Juice Master Retreats.

“We’ve upped the amount of avocado by five per cent

in some of the recipes,” says Jason, “which creates a creamier texture that is more satiating and tastes closer to the smoothies and blends enjoyed at the retreats.

“It’s these little constant improvements which we know make all the difference when you are following a cleanse and one of the reasons why Juice Master Delivered is the best in the business.”

Juicy Escape is the realisation of Jason’s

A true labour of love, the build of Juicy Escape has spanned a pandemic, a war and Brexit, all challenges which Jason has shouldered and persevered to make his dream a reality.

“We could never have foreseen those events,” says Jason, “but once we started building, we couldn’t stop.

“When we built Juicy Oasis, we took on a run-down hotel which we transformed into a fantastic health retreat, but we were limited with what we could do with the site and existing building.

“I wanted to build somewhere so good that you don’t want to go home at the end of your retreat, and I think Juicy Escape is it”

plan for the ultimate health resort which he plans to spend time enjoying himself!

Set over 40 acres, there are incredible sports facilities, an ethereal-looking, Eden Project-inspired spa and plenty of touches to add to the fun and suit every appetite.

Juicy Escape. ‘EveryBODY’ welcome!

Exclusive interview with Jason about his brand-new health retreat

pandemic, followed by Brexit and then the war in Ukraine, with prices spiralling, but we just kept swimming. I had a vision to create something truly remarkable and, as it’s the last retreat I’ll ever build, it’s been one of those projects which has just grown and we’ve developed ideas along the way.

“We’re building Juicy Escape to create an environment where people can have a blast while healing. For example, it’s said that 95 per cent of people over the age of 30 will never sprint again, so we’ve built a 60m sprint track to allow people to have a go.”

a judgement-free environment,” he says.

“We run health resorts where everyBODY –whatever size or shape – is truly welcome.

“Although Juicy Escape’s sport facilities will be fantastic, we’re not aiming to attract athletes, but want ordinary people to come and have a go, do as little or as much activity as they want and are free to enjoy the retreat however they choose to do so.

BLUE-SKY THINKING

“With Juicy Escape, we had a blank canvas and so we’ve set about creating a vast juicy village which has everything you could ever want, although we did underestimate the work involved!

“We started building in mid-2019, just before we hit a

Jason’s passion for fun and bringing people together shines through in his idea to host a ‘mini’ Olympics event each week, taking full advantage of the 200m running track, high jump, long jump and hurdles.

“What sets our retreats apart from others is that the emphasis is on having fun and enjoying the experience in

“Juicy Escape is no boot camp and, just as at Juicy Oasis and Juicy Mountain, it will offer the same 7-day journey which centres on nutrition, walks, rebounding, yoga and bringing people together.

“I’ve studied Blue Zones around the world where people consistently live longer, healthier lives and there are two common denominators which we’ve incorporated into our retreats.

“Firstly, a sense of community,

where strong social connections exist. At Juicy Escape, we will serve bowl food and juices from big wooden tables, so everyone comes together each evening to enjoy a sociable meal. Guests will also get a set of postcards during their stay and the idea is to invite other people to hang out with you during your retreat. As with all Juice Master Retreats, the hub is the beating heart that brings people together – whether through the soulful sounds of a retro vinyl player and a mini grand piano, a friendly game of chess, unwinding in the loft sauna, taking a cold plunge or losing yourself in a book from the library. The relaxed, chilled vibe also invites you to take a little digital detox.

“Secondly, in these blue zones, movement is part of daily life –it’s no coincidence that all of our retreats are set around hills!

“The Juice Master Retreats essentially all offer the same journey, to reset

people’s cravings and biochemistry, but each location has its own unique personality.

“Juicy Mountain is rustic and intimate, Juicy Oasis is a home from home and Juicy Escape will be recognised for its unique design, which seamlessly separates the tranquil beach and spa areas from the sports zones. You could spend an entire week unwinding in the spa without realising there’s a football pitch just steps away!

“In fact, while there will be around 100 guests each week at Juicy Escape, compared with just 50 at Juicy Oasis, the chances are the new retreat will feel empty, as there is far more space to lose yourself.

“We’ve got upper and lower beaches, there are coconut trees with hammocks, a spiritual contemplation tree to hang out by, and Portugal’s largest internal swimming lake, plus the most beautiful spa.

“It’s been a really organic build, which is one of the reasons why it’s taken so long, as we keep adding stuff all the time.

“For example, there is a main swimming pool, but we wanted people to be able to swim lengths, so we’ve built a 25-metre pool too. And when we started construction, nobody had heard of pickleball and padel, but we’ve built courts so people can enjoy the fastest-growing sports on the planet.”

Far left: Pause and take a moment under the spiritual Contemplation Tree.

L-R: Stay in a fabulous Escape Pod; the world’s only blue, nine-a-side football pitch; hit the beach and chill; overlooking the lake at Juicy Escape; the gym even features a boxing ring!

Why frozen is better than fresh (or why fresh isn’t as fresh as you think!)

If you’re reading this issue of Juicy News on retreat, chances are you already know how freshly extracted juice from a balanced combination of fruit and vegetables can make you feel A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Juice provides a concentrated dose of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, hydrates your body and can help to ease your digestive tract.

A week’s stay at Juicy Oasis or Juicy Mountain is a fantastic way to max out on the good stuff, but when it’s time to head home staying on track can be challenging. Ensuring you get the full rainbow of nutrients can be time-consuming and hard work when juggling life, and a Juice Master Delivered plan is the perfect solution to keep your cleanse going for longer.

HASSLE-FREE JUICING

Created by Jason as a handy, hassle-free juice programme that takes all the work out of shopping, juicing and cleaning, Juice Master Delivered uses 100 per cent organic ingredients with no added sugar, preservatives or artificial flavourings to put the best-quality frozen juice in your hands.

With a choice of 3-, 5- and 7-day cleanses, Juice Master Delivered is cold-pressed, which helps to preserve the vitamins, minerals and enzymes of the fruit and vegetables in each recipe. These are blast-frozen and packed into Juice Master Delivered’s signature little blue bottles to block out light and oxygen, which can reduce the nutritional value of the juice.

IT’S IN THE SCIENCE

In fact, a frozen juice plan might be even better for your health than fresh, as ingredients are typically picked and prepared at peak ripeness, so the maximum nutritional value is locked in. By contrast, there’s often a significant time lag between fresh produce reaching supermarket shelves and being consumed.

This is supported by several scientific studies, and in 2018 research by the University of Seville showed that frozen, unpasteurised orange juice can be healthier than fresh orange juice. Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C and betacarotene and the scientists examined two carotenoids, phytoene and phytofluene.

The study showed that while freezing and thawing led to the loss of some carotenoids, it resulted in better biological availability and absorption. An earlier 2015 study also measured the levels of vitamins in frozen and fresh fruits and vegetables. It found that frozen blueberries have significantly higher levels of vitamins C and E than their fresh counterparts, and that spinach loses 100 per cent of its vitamin C when stored at room temperature for a week, but just 30 per cent when frozen.

Cold water therapy, a brilliant ice-breaker

Long favoured by athletes to enhance performance and speed up recovery, ice baths are now widely recognised as a way to burn calories and boost metabolic health, as fat hates cold!

The sudden drop in body temperature after climbing into an ice bath causes a surge in cortisol (the stress hormone) and leads to increased endorphin and norepinephrine production. Exposing yourself to cold water activates brown

fat, a type of adipose tissue that produces heat by burning calories and glucose, which is activated by the freezing temperature. Scientists analysed 11 studies involving 3,177 participants who regularly used ice baths and concluded that the benefits also include stress reduction, improved sleep and quality of life. Juicy Escape will have a large cold plunge pool, just outside the sauna, so get ready to break the ice and take the plunge!

‘EASY-FREEZY’

When it comes to juicing, Juice Master Delivered offers a more convenient way to enjoy a health boost. Delivered to your door, it’s ‘easy-freezy’ to follow the plan, popping the bottled juices in the fridge to slowly defrost for the next day. All you need to do is place an order and your juice is prepped and ready to go!

Miracle drug or dangerous diet?

The

truth about ‘the

fat jab!’

Nausea, hair- and muscle-loss, wrinkles, pancreatitis and kidney disorders – the real dangers of weight-loss injections

After a lifetime of struggling with her body image, former X-Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has transformed her appearance using Ozempic, but recent photographs raised concerns about her extreme 40lbs weightloss and the sideeffects of ‘fat jabs’, which are now widely used by millions. While slimming pills have been popular with Hollywood stars for decades, the next generation of fat jabs, including Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy, are easily accessible

and being doled out to millions around the globe who are happy to skip the long game and get super-skinny, super-quick!

The ‘wonder drug’ has been hailed by NHS chiefs as a panacea for lifestyle diseases including heart, liver and kidney disease, along with some types of cancer, by 50 per cent. In May, the Tony Blair Institute urged a speed-up of the roll-out of antiobesity medication saying widespread use could cut the UK’s benefits bill by £3.47bn over ten years.

Appearing on Lorraine shortly after, TV’s Dr Hilary told viewers that weightloss drugs could soon be prescribed as commonly as statins, adding that the medication can even improve some mental health conditions.

REAL SIDE-EFFECTS

Yet, just like any Big Pharma drug, the seemingly easy slimming medication has a raft of unpleasant side effects, some of which can cause long-lasting health complications.

Numerous side effects, most commonly nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation JUICING vs WEIGHT-LOSS JABS

The injectable weight-loss drugs mimic glucagonlike peptide-1, often referred to as GLP-1, a naturally occurring hormone which is released in the small intestine each time we eat and affects the brain’s appetite control. While the potential to shrink body weight by up to 25 per cent with a weekly injection may sound appealing, the downside of fat jabs range from nausea, sickness, diarrhoea or constipation to headaches, abdominal pain, indigestion, bloating, flatulence, fatigue and hair-loss. Some users have reported gallbladder infections and pancreatitis, muscle wastage, vision loss, erectile dysfunction, kidney damage and even thyroid cancer. Sudden weightloss can also effect cosmetic changes and, along with ‘Ozempic face’, ‘Ozempic butt’ and ‘Ozempic feet’ users have reported sagging skin as an unwanted result.

HEALTHY HABITS

While still in the early days of use, the longterm effects of the jabs are unknown and not an ideal approach for most. Instead, the tried and trusted approach of a healthy diet and regular movement offer a natural

alternative to injecting medication, which doesn’t do anything to fix the underlying habits which often affect people’s health.

“Once again, Big Pharma – along with, no doubt, vested interested parties within Government – has found its new ‘bitcoin’ drug to inject into millions of people around the world,” says Jason.

“The same tactics are, once again, being used for this jab as previously with the Covid vaccine, with governments, GPs and the media telling everyone that the mass roll-out of weight-loss jabs will save millions of lives and ‘help the NHS’.

“We even have medical professionals, including Dr Hilary, saying these jabs may reduce your risk of cancer and that, “after further research”, there could be a strong argument to give weight-loss jabs to everyone, not just those who are obese.

“Big Pharma has one goal in mind and it isn’t a cure for weightloss, it’s the lifetime value of a customer. The side-effects will take years to show fully, but if Sharon Osbourne is anything to go by, there’s never been a stronger argument for ditching the jabs and getting some freshly extracted juice in you instead!”

People who play racket sports live the longest SPORTS NEWS

Anyone for tennis?

Or padel or pickleball for that matter... There’s a reason why there will be a fabulous suite of courts to play numerous racket sports at Juicy Escape.

Research shows that racket sports can add up to ten years to your life expectancy. One global study tracked over 80,000 people for almost a decade. It found that those who played regularly reduced their risk of cardiovascular disease by 56 per cent, thanks to the sport’s intense bursts of activity, which are beneficial for heart and blood vessels.

Racket sports also improve cognitive health,

balance and build muscle mass, contributing to an overall boost in fitness.

While most of us have played a game of tennis, padel and pickleball, which will be on offer at Juicy Escape, have been identified by Forbes as two of the fastest-growing sports globally.

The business magazine also described padel as ‘the new golf’ because of its sociable nature and the many opportunities to build relationships and do business as you play.

With a growing number of padel and pickleball clubs around the world, why not pick up a racket and get ready to play at Juicy Escape.

Game, set and match, Jason!

Jason Manford makes us laugh with his stand-up shows, but there’s nothing funny about his recent performance on the Juicy Escape courts. The comedian, actor and radio DJ is a lifelong tennis player and took up padel four years ago. Who better to christen the court than Mr Manford who joined Jason for a ‘friendly’ game of tennis. Both Jasons are highly competitive, but the final score was 6-1, 6-3 in the Juice Master’s favour. We’re keenly awaiting the rematch!

You’ve probably seen the stat which estimates that 95 per cent of adults over the age of 30 will never sprint again in their life. If you left your all-out run behind with your school PE kit, it’s time to dig out your trainers. Sprinting is a great HIIT workout to boost cardiovascular health, build bone density, muscle strength and resilience. In fact, sprinting has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Jason is passionate about changing the stat, so Juicy Escape has a 60m sprint and 200m track, plus a 25m pool, as part of a mini-Olympics challenge. Get back into sprinting now and see if you can beat your PB at the new retreat!

Take the plunge! Studies show that short-course swimming boosts both physical and mental health

Swimming in a 25m pool, such as the one Jason has built at Juicy Escape, is good for body and mind, according to scientific research.

The 25m distance – often referred to as short-course swimming – which emphasises frequent turns and wall push-offs, offers a range of physical and mental health benefits, according to a study published in the Journal of Swimming Research

It showed that swimmers who use a short-course pool often have improved cardiovascular endurance

and muscle strength. The frequent wall push-offs allow for higher overall swim speeds, contribute to increased calorie burn and simultaneously promote mental clarity and reduced anxiety levels, thanks to the repetitive nature of this type of swimming.

The study concluded that 25m sprint swimming offers a highly time-efficient and effective workout which supports heart health, strength development and mental wellbeing. Showing it’s not all about distance, short-course swimming is a winner.
